NYC Bugout

I've been looking to do more travelling, and due to scheduling constraints, it would be great to be able to take more quick weekend or extended weekend trips.

There's a thousand things I'd rather pay hundreds of dollars for that don't include being crammed into a tiny metal box, public gropings, or luxurious surroundings to be unconscious in.

So, here's my budget NYC vacation:

Transportation: Chinatown Bus (bus2nyc.com), leaving Cincinnati at 9pm, arriving in Manhattan at 9am
($120 round trip)
Accommodations - Camping at Camp Gateway, at Floyd Bennett Field, in Brooklyn of Jamaica Bay. ($20 a night)

3 days, 2 nights in NYC, $160.

I packed up early the next morning, and headed to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad train station. I loaded my bike in, along with perhaps a dozen other people taking their bikes up the hill, and we set off for frostburg. The group of cyclists were pretty varied, from forty something's in spandex to couples in their sixties taking an afternoon cruise down the mountainside. For the first 5 miles, I had to keep talking myself out of finding a shuttle back to Ohiopyle. It was cold and overcast and uphill.  Knowing the top of the mountain was only about 12 miles away kept me going.  That and not wanting to spend $200 for a shuttle. Weight Loss

At the beginning of November, 2011, I was 'suddenly' 267 pounds, and was ready for change. I had been researching and working on a system of lifestyle changes with the goal of being merely overweight by my next birthday, in June. At 5'10", this meant a goal weight of 202 lbs. I began the first major lifestyle change - quitting cola, and switching to self-brewed ice tea. I began looking into modifying my diet, too. I love to eat, so the challenge was finding low-calorie and convenient replacements for mcdonalds, chick-fil-a, and dunkin donuts.  I learned the calorie counts for all the basic foods I usually ate, and spent a few long shopping trips at the grocery store, looking at the calories of everything. I cut most of the bread out of my diet, most sugars, which meant most processed foods.  No Mayonnaise, there are so many tasty replacements, the richest of which are half the calories. I eat a lot of asparagus, mixed vegetables (corn, peas, beans, carrots)
