GAP

My big bike/camping ride this fall is going to be the GAP - The Great Allegheny Passage.

It's 142 miles, from Cumberland, Maryland to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh.

Built on abandoned railroad lines, it's mostly flat, winding through mountain towns and forests. I'm hoping to have the trip coincide with fall, and the leaves changing colors.

One big stop along the route is near Ohiopyle State Park - Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, a mid-century-modern home that has been awarded just about every 'Best American Architecture' award.

I'm looking at about 3.5 days of travel on the trail:
  • 40 miles to Husky Haven Campground in Rockwood, PA
  • 20 miles to Ohiopyle State Forest, with a lengthy stop at Fallingwater
  • 40 miles to Ceder Creek Campgroun
  • And a final 20 miles to McKeesport, PA
The stops are all campgrounds, I plan to carry everything on the back of my bike.  I have a few test camping trips left to plan before this trip.. Load up the bike in Loveland, for example, bike up to Fort Ancient, camp, and bike back.
